20th – 26th September 2021 marks Recycle Week in the UK
Now in its 18th year, Recycle Week is a large annual event that includes brands, retailers, waste management companies and governments coming together to celebrate and raise awareness about recycling.
Step It Up
This year the theme of recycle week is Step It Up
99% of us already recycle and probably feel like we’re doing our bit – but we can always do more.
Here are some ideas for how you could raise your recycling game this year:
- Use a reusable tote bag when you next go shopping – not one of those plastic bags for life, but one made from sustainable materials that won’t end up in landfill or the ocean at some point
- Bring a refillable water bottle with you and fill it up from the tap instead of buying single use plastic bottles – maybe you’ve already got one of those massive oversized water bottles, but whether its the gym, the car or the office, make sure you’ve always got it with you
- Borrow instead of buying – friends and neighbours are a great source for things that you might buy and only use once before chucking in the bin, so ask around to see if you can borrow instead of buy
- Take your own Tupperware – ok this one might be a bit weird, but some takeaway restaurants will let you bring your own boxes instead of using their plastic ones. If you do have to use theirs, make sure you keep’em for your meal prep next week!
The goal in 2021 is to push ourselves just that little bit more and get everyone talking about what they could do for the environment.
So get ready to really think about what you throw away and how you can reduce your waste in the weeks leading up to Recycle Week.
Remember: ‘Refuse, Reduce, Reuse’ – Just a few simple changes could make all the difference!
